Cap Méchant, when nature takes back its rights
Cap Méchant in the south-east of the Reunion Island is located in the town of Saint-Philippe in the region nicknamed Wild south. Mille-feuille of black lava generated by the regular flows of Piton de la Fournaise, Cap Méchant leaves no one indifferent.
You guessed it, its name comes from the bustle of the Indian Ocean whose waves crash against the volcanic rock of the intense island. A striking spectacle that reminds us that we are not much in the face of the raging elements. You can walk along the coast, but stay away from the cliffs, it is more careful.
Sit facing this wild Reunion coast in a picnic kiosk set up in the shade of vacoas and casuarinas. Look at the horizon and let yourself be enchanted by the bewitching scenery offered by Cap Méchant. Avoid the rather spicy grass which would tend to spoil this magical moment, it is not for nothing that the Reunionese have nicknamed it the “pique-fesse” herb.
Your stay in Reunion takes place in August? Don't miss the feast of vacoa in Saint-Philippe, one of the largest events from the island. It takes place over 10 days, and has been for 28 years. If not, you can also go to garden of perfumes and spices, in the middle of the Mare-Longue forest, which is there all year round. You will go to meet spices, plants and Reunion Island flowers.
