Folio House

Salazie

The garden symbolizes A MEETING

Maison édifiée au XIXème siècle au cœur de l’ancienne station thermale d’Hell-Bourg
This 19th century house is nestled in the heart of the former Hell-Bourg spa in Salazie.

The villa and its garden have been listed in the Inventory of Historical Monuments of the Department since April 6, 1989. Superbly restored by the current owners who have taken particular care to renovate it identically and with the purest respect for the traditional architecture, Maison Folio is one of the jewels of the village of Hell-Bourg.

It invites us on a journey through time, to the time when the great Creole families of the island left the heat. from the coast to relax in the freshness of the Hauts

Carefully maintained and remarkably preserved, Maison Folio alone represents all the style and charm of the colonial era. The interior of the house is still furnished mainly with period furniture and includes the architectural characteristics of bourgeois Creole huts: veranda, symmetry of the rooms, Creole ceiling, floor and lambrequin.

The garden symbolizes the “Creole art of living” with its guétali, its fountain and its stone paths. Between the paths and paths that crisscross the garden, plants occupy all the space. Strolling there transports you on a journey of exotic scents among perfume, aromatic and medicinal plants: geranium, vetiver, patchouli, turmeric, lemongrass, allspice, etc.

One of the outbuildings also houses a very interesting exhibition of usual period objects and local crafts.
