Takamaka waterfall

Takamaka, a valley for seasoned athletes

The Takamaka Valley took shape in the ancient lava flows of Piton des Neiges, dug by the river of Marsouins. Situated at the east of the island of Reunion, it is at the center of the municipal territory of St. Benedict.

You can access this valley only by the strength of your legs, your arms or by air, Takamaka being roadless. Whatever, you have decided to go there and we are going to give you the different means to get there.

A superb, but difficult hiking awaits you at the gates of the hydroelectric plant which supplies most of the electricity needs to the Réunionese. You will tackle wet terrain, with a steep drop, with 27 ladders and an average duration of 7 hours of walking. As much to say to you that you will have to be well trained, but you will be largely rewarded for your efforts by the magnificent waterfalls and the grandiose landscapes that will cross your path.

Takamaka Canyon is only accessible to canyoners experienced from 16 years old. If you want to learn this sport, you will need to find a simpler route to start. The course includes jumps of 8 meters, 10 hours of descent of the canyon, rappels and swimming and a walking-climbing 2:15 am to get back to your car. Good luck !

You are not at all sporty, but absolutely want to enjoy the panorama of the valley of Takamaka? See it from the sky and book a flight in helicopter or in ULM according to your budget. From your seat, you can gaze at the most beautiful landscapes of the intense island.

You want to organize your trip to the meeting with a paper guide in pocket format, we recommend this one Guide du Routard 2021/2022
