Hamlet in the south-west of Reunion, Manapany is a black sand beach bordering the Indian Ocean. Located right next to the village of Saint-Joseph, Manapany Bay is best known for its natural pool surrounded by basalt rocks. You will have the opportunity to swim there, but it is not supervised.
Although it is forbidden to cool off outside the natural basin, you will not have time to get bored in Manapany-les-Bains. Walk on the ruins of the Kervéguen landing stage which was used to transport local products to different places of intense island, even in metropolitan France.
Go back to the 19th century in front of the remains of the lime kiln at Manapany. This three-cylindrical oven, where corals from the lagoons of Grand-Bois and Anse-les-Bas were incinerated, was used for bleaching cane sugar.
If luck is on your side, you might come across the path of the Manapany green lizard, a species of gecko endemic to Reunion Island. To see it, look up towards the fruit trees! This little reptile of about ten centimeters likes to feed on fruits from Reunion Island, nectar from banana and papaya flowers, pulp from mangoes and pimpin, the fruit of vacoa, and insects.
