Circus of Cilaos

Cilaos est une petite ville thermale d’environ 5 500 habitants et de 85 km2 ​ située dans le cirque du même nom en plein cœur de the Reunion Island south of Piton des Neiges.

Historians do not all agree on the origin of its name. Some suppose that it would come from the Malagasy word Tsilaosa which translates to “place where one is safe”. Others claim that it comes from the name of a Malagasy slave responding to the name of Tsilaos who would have found refuge in the circus of Cilaos. Anyway, the idea of ​​a pleasant and reassuring place emerges from its origins, you will feel good there.

Before getting there, take the road with 400 bends which is already a discovery in itself and the one and only road to access Cilaos. It offers you magnificent perspectives of the caldera of Cilaos as well as on certain reliefs of the intense island, the Grand Bénare, the Gros Morne and of course the Piton des Neiges.

Once there, get on an electric boat and sail on the Mare de Jonc, you also have the pedal boat option. Do you want to work out? You will find hikes of all levels, from canyoning, tree climbing or even climbing.

The cascade of yellow flowers is located in the circus of Cilaos. The fall comes from the water that the catchment located above lets through, it flows into a basin with translucent emerald-colored water. Duration: between 1h30 and 2h return
