Bois-Court Belvedere, a bird's eye view of Grand Bassin
The Bois-Court belvedere is a platform in the center of Reunion Island which dominates the Plain of Cafres just above the city of Tampon. Culminating at an altitude of 1,400 meters, you can contemplate from its heights the ramparts of Circus of Cilaos and a superb waterfall, that of the Voile de la Mariée in the small village of Grand Bassin.
You can also go see it up close if you have good legs and good endurance. Evolve among guava trees, bringeliers and lantanas, a loop of almost 16 km is planned from Bois-Court. You will have the opportunity to cool off in the Veil of the Bride pool provided that there is not too much water. If long hikes frighten you, take the opportunity to spend the night in one of the guest rooms on the Grand Bassin island.
A real step back in time, modern technologies have not got the better of this small hamlet of intense island. No internet connection, no electricity, the small Reunionese village of Grand Bassin will be a return to basics for you. A good time to relax and meet people, discover the inhabitants and traditions of Reunion Island "lontan".
As a little anecdote, the Bois-Court belvedere housed a clepsydra, an impressive water clock made up of spheres containing a mixture of water tinted with methylene blue and methylated spirits. Capable of giving the time with the same precision as a classic clock, it was damaged by Cyclone Dumile in January 2013 and its last hour struck on February 1, 2013 by the breath of Felleng.
