Le Tampon, a town where life is good!

Located in the south of Reunion, Le Tampon is the 4th town on the island with 80,000 inhabitants spread over 165.4 km2. Overlooking Saint Pierre, it has no coastline and sinks inland until the Plain of Palmists and St. Benedict.

In the 18th century, the Tampon was attached to the town of Saint Pierre and is still only a vast forest. It was around 1830 that Count Gabriel le Coat de Kerveguen bought all the land concessions for himself and his children.

After the economic crisis at the start of the 20th century, properties were sold and fields of geraniums flourished in the region, making Reunion the only world producer. A real financial windfall for the Tampon which became common in 1925.

The city center, shopping and lively, is located south of the town towards Saint-Pierre at about 500 meters above sea level. It offers quite varied housing offers and is surrounded by several neighborhoods:

What to do in the city of Le Tampon?
