Presentation of the Saline-les-Bains
As Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, the Saline-les-Bains did not have an access road. The first inhabitants therefore settled in the Hauts in search of cultivable land. It is with the arrival of the road in 1863 which connects Saint-Paul to Saint-Leu that the village becomes populated and continues its development thanks to the construction of the railway line of St Denis at Saint Pierre in 1882.
La Saline-les-Bains has continued to increase its tourist potential since the early 1970s thanks to its white sand beach and its lagoon which are among the most beautiful beaches on Reunion Island and which allow swimming and underwater exploration in complete safety.
